This is the definition of a game that I recommend to everyone! It is one of the most shockingly well written visual novels. Even the couple of weaker routes is some of the best of the genre. Personally, Lilly and Emi are the characters that I related to and was attracted to the most. I recognize the importance of the authenticity of Hanako and especially Rin as I have grown up. This game has stuck with me for years and I hope more and more people take it and improve their lives and the lives of the people around them. Katawa Shoujo is a special VN that was the brainchild of a ragtag group of dedicated and talented /a/ 4channers back in the day originally releasing in 2012. It was based off of a Doujin made by Japanese artist RAITA. The fact this exists in the first place is nothing short of a miracle. And it seems to have recently have gotten a second wind of popularity with many people discovering it for the first time within the last few years. It's one of those experiences best read/seen for yourself rather than potentially spoiled. But Katawa Shoujo will make you smile/laugh, cry, and maybe at times feel a bit confused. But it has a lot of spirit and heart. Since it's free I think anyone interested in romcom visual novels should give this a shot. The script is engaging, and the various routes including the common route have their own emotionally driven rollercoasters, but with mostly satisfying payoffs for the time commitment you give it. Easy recommendation!

I haven't even finished the VN but I am on the final act of my first read so I will give myself leverage to say I can still review it. I adore this VN wholeheartedly. It is funny and beautiful. it is perfect for what you want. the beautiful music in the background accompanied with the beautiful writing... the beautiful characters. The VN is incredibly compelling as well as engaging leaving me wanting more with each hour that passes. Considering it is labelled as an emotional romance I still found many comedic moments that warranted far more than just a nasal exhale. For further information, I ended up going down the Lilly route and I have no regrets at all. It was so touching and just overall amazing.

Phenomenal game! I have played it through to 100% twice! Every visual novel fan should try this game and it's free so you have nothing to lose.
