Aoi Tori is one of the most consistently engaging, well-paced, and entertaining visual novels I ever read. However, it's also one of the weirdest visual novels I read given its odd mix of genres, quirky mix of heroines, plot-forced casual sex, this somehow all-knowing phone devil, and loads of Christian Bible + Western Play references and parallels. Aoi Tori also ends up juggling an odd mix of genres, switching between a moege, nakige, nukige, and mystery plotge on a dime. I didn’t mind the style since it fit the weird setting, but someone who wants something more focused might be turned off. Finally, while Aoi Tori is a mostly excellently paced story, there were some character themes and depth I wish were explored just a bit more, making every route just good to really good, but none being in the running for one of my favorite routes ever. On a personal level I had a blast from start to finish, and love Purplesoft embracing the weirdness of the eroge genre.
